What should the expression be for the text box that is storing the data?

And what should the expression be for the text box that is retrieving the data?

What is id and column ?

Where should the rest of the function be called? such as the onInit() OR is it called automatically on each render?

While I am now deeply into the MS BI stack, I come from a Cognos background so I agree wholeheartedly with your business analyst (and "agree to disagree" with 99% of the MS BI techies).

I've just been testing a conversion from the "whitepaper" approach to yours (the "Teo YARDI" approach?), and it appears to be about 10 times faster (on identical hardware, source data etc). And it also works naturally in Excel filters (like a regular dimension), which was a shortcoming of the "whitepaper" approach and other variants.

So I think this is definitely the winner - IMO.

I think there was one (trivial) step missing in the procedure - after creating the named calculation called RelativeDateKey, you have to add it to your Dates dimension as an Attribute Hierachy (with AttributeHierarchyVisible = False).

You can add custom properties to your report by calling SetProperties API and retrieve them using the GetProperties API. Or, you can append them inside the report definition (CustomProperties element) but you need to parse the report definition to get them. You can use the RDL Object Model to simplify the latter task.

I think the best part of the publish reports parts process is the ability to capture rich metadata about the report part. Is there a way to create custom metadata, or query additional metadata from the ReportServer database?

Thanks for all your posts, and your book, one of my favorites!

There is a separate download for the 2007 integration bits but once installed, use in multiple zones, connections to SharePoiint lists etc all seem to work fine.

Sorry for not making this clearer but this applies to SharePoint 2010, R2, and Report Builder 3.0. With SharePoint 2010, the latest cummulative update pack configures ClickOnce automatically so you don't have to manually copy the folders, as I explained here prologika.com/.../report-builder-2-0-clickonce.aspx.

For me, this didn't work. In my case Reporting Services R2 is on a different server to the SharePoint 2007 web front end. The Open with Report Builder option went to URL sharepointserver/.../ReportBuilder.application which would not open the correct version (or any version come to that).

I needed to copy the ReportBuilder folder from the Reporting Services server into an accessible location on the web front end then set up a custom launch URL as in previous version, except pointing to ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application.

Are you running a single server configuration?
