    Excel PivotTable Problems

I need help connecting my test adventure works cube to a excel pivot table.

When I use the PivotTable Wizard in Excel 2003 to connect to a SQL 2005 cube,
the wizard successfully finds and connects to the cube, but when I click
'finish' to retrieve the data, I get the following error:

"Initialization of the data source failed.

Check the database server or contact your database administrator. Make sure
the external database is available, and then try the operation again. If you
see this message again, create a new data source to connect to the database. "

I cant get the first example of the books to work.

    Re: Excel PivotTable Problems

Nevermind.  I found out it wasnt working because I was entering the computer name instead of 'localhost' under the data source textbox.

Im still having problems building a offline data cube though.  Is it because the Adventure Works Cube is too complicated to build a offline file of?

    Re: Excel PivotTable Problems

Hello, im new here and i found this site in my searching for a problem one of our accountants is having when using Excel 2003 to create pivot tables. Here is the error"

Excel is unable to load the cached records for one or more PivotTables reports.  You will need to refresh those reports before they can be used again.

the user also got this error message:

’~ar17Ao.xar’ cannot be accessed.  The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location.  Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding.”

the user has admin rights on her laptop and has full access tot he folder and files. she is still able to save data and modify the workbook but she keeps getting these errors. im not really sure where to go with this one.

    Re: Excel PivotTable Problems

Friends, I am new to Excel Pivot tables. We have a requirement, We are having two excel sheets one is having pivot table & other one is normal excel sheet with data. We need to generate new excelsheet using these two excel sheets. My Questions are; 1. Can we access Existing pivot table's pivot cache to get all the data using macro code? 2. Can we build pivot table automatically using excel macro? Your help will be highly appreciated... Thanks in advance.. --Anand
