    Error on Link Dimension

I create a sample project and use link dimension from another AdventureWorks project on the same server. However when I make some minor change at orginal dimension, such as changing name, then I got the following erro when I process the cube which has link dimension:

Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The metadata for the statically
linked dimension, with the name of 'Product', cannot be verified against the source
    object.

Do I miss something when configuring link dimension?

    Thanks

    Don

This is either a bug or it  could be that the linked object feature in UDM wasn't completely implemented. For example, if you open up the linked dimension in the Dimension Designer and look at its properties, you will see a Persistence property set to Metadata but it is read-only. Looking at the docs, Persistence should support also an NotPersisted option. My understanding is that with NotPersisted, metadata changes should be detected on the fly. Now, you can bypass the UI, open up the dimension source, and change the Persistence attribute to NotPersisted and this may get you out the error. However, the fact that the UI doesn't support this option makes me think that something else may not work Surprise

I strongly suggest you report this to MS support or on connect.microsoft.com.

    Re: Error on Link Dimension

    Hi Teo,

You are right, it is the bug, I find a similar post at technet forum:

"We contacted Microsoft regarding this issue and it appears that this is 'as designed' functionality.  Pretty disappointing to find out that you have to pretty much blow away a cube that contains a linked object and rebuild it each time a linked object changes.  If anyone comes up with a good workaround for this it would be really helpful."

I am just supprised that SP2 has not benn able to fix it.
