ADF V2 has many weaknesses, starting with connectors (and it’s not just about the lack of many obvious ones, more about the stability and quality of the existing ones), no extensibility (my SSIS developers cry when they try ADF…) and ending up with potential bottlenecks caused by the on-premises Integration Runtime performance. The problem is exactly as you stated here: https://prologika.com/are-you-modern-yet/. Microsoft as cloud vendor presents those “modern data something” architecture diagrams not just because they are best practices and patterns to follow, but also because of the revenue / consumption stream behind the scene… The role of architect should be more than ever focused on ethical advocacy nowadays.
